Futures Trade In Steel May Be Banned

The government is contemplating ban on futures trading in iron and steel. This will be in addition to a host of tax incentives to bring down the price of steel in the country.

The rise in steel prices had contributed around 25 percent to the recent jump in the wholesale inflation rate, a government official said.

In addition, the government is likely to ban futures trading in almost all major farm goods. Read more

The cabinet committee on Prices met on Monday to consider measures to control the runaway inflation, which touched a record 6.68 percent for the week ended March 15. the measures would include fiscal, monetary and supply-side. this meeting comes against a background of record inflation, high import prices of key food items and intense worry over adverse political impact. ArcelorMittal Chooses Site For Jharkhand Steel Plant

Steel giant Arcelor Mittal has finalized the site for 12 million tonne Greenfield steel project. The site is in Topra-kamdara blocks of khunti and Gumla district of Jharkhand.

ArcelorMittal’s entry would usher in a new era of industrialization in the state. The site is chosen because of availability of the water in that region for industrial purposes. Read more
