On 22 July, the parliament of India voted on the fate of UPA government after a long, unending debate which saw many low moments also and decided that congress governementlead by Dr Manmohan Singh should continue to run.

The government is safe now. It is floating inspite of Left leaving it.

The motion was moved by prime minister Mannmohan Singh himself. With this he became first prime minister of India towin a confidence motion.

There were many dramatic turns in this two day long debate. Most serious was the allegation by three BJP members that they have been asked to cross vote for a payment of money. it was quite a scene in the parliament when the alleged cash was shown.

The motion got 275 votes and 256 votes were against the motion.

Government is now expected to pursue the nuclear deal and other economic reforms as well.

Winning this motion was very important for this government.

For past few months the government has been marred by issues regarding nuclear deal with America, rising prices. With this win, government gets time to strengthen its position.

This would also be important in view of elections coming next year.
