Bilateral Relations of Indo-France

Aid policy with bilateral partners was reviewed. French aid is tied to imports of French goods and services. French commitments are made for specific projects where contracts are awarded to French companies. Local costs are not financed under French aid.

The policy announcement of 20 September 2004 has included France (by virtue of being a G-8 country) in the list of countries from which development assistance would be acceptable to India.

However, while India welcomes development assistance from France, it would still not receive tied aid. It has been clarified to France that it may not be possible for India to accept tied aid; even if it is bundled in a package with an united component. Read more

Bilateral Relations of Indo-Switzerland

Swiss assistance has been in the form of grants and has been provided for local costs as well as technical assistance. In the past, Switzerland has also provided mixed credit comprising 40 percent grant and 60 percent loan for power sector project.

The Neriyamangalam Hydro Electricity Project of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has been implemented under the Swiss Mixed Credit Agreement dated 25 June 1991. An amount of CHF39.235 million (Rs. 91.98 crore) has been disbursed under the credit line up to March 2005.

Presently, Swiss assistance in India is mainly directed towards NGO projects. During the last year Switzerland has supported several NGO project in India. Read more
