Official Language of India-Constitutional Or Statutory Provisions

Article 343(1) of the Constitution provides that Hindi in Devanagari script shall be the official language of the Union. Article 343(2) also provided for continuing the use of English in official work of the union for a period of 15 years (i.e., up to 25 January 1965) from the date of commencement of the Constitutions.

Articlentee 343 (3) empowered the parliament to provide by law for continued use of English for official purposes even after 25 January 1965. Accordingly, section 3(2) of the official languages act, 1963 (amended in 1967) provides for continuing the sue of English in official work even after 25 January 1965. Read more

New Telecom Licenses Issued-Mobile Competition To Go Up

The Government has started issuing telecom licenses to new players, an event that would enhance the competition and benefit the consumers.

Licences for nine companies have been issued. A total of 22 licenses are to be given to three new players

Birla’s Idea Cellular would get license for one circle in Punjab and Swan Telecom for the Delhi and Mumbai circles.

The exercise is expected to be completed by weekend. Read more

Postal Services In India

India has the largest postal network in the world.

Modern Postal System in India was established by Lord Clive in the year 1766. Warran Hastings by established Calcutta G.P.O. under a Postmaster General in 1774. General Post Offices of Bombay and Madras were established in year 1786 and 1793 respectively.

The Act of 1837 first regulated the Post office on an uniform basis to unite the post office organization. The Post Office Act of 1854 reformed the entire fabric of the Postal system, and the Post Office of Indian was placed on the present administrative providing footing one hundred and fifty years ago on 1 October 1854.
