India’s inflation rate has shot up to a three-and-a-half-year peak of 7.57 percent. The inflation has been primarily driven by higher food prices and some metals. the government has assured that the prices would come down very soon.
The wheat procurement by government agencies this season have crossed 150 lakh tones. Read more

More Mangoes Would Rain This Year

There is some good news for mango lovers around the country as production of the king of fruits is likely to go up this year. Favorable weather conditions in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Orissa have brightened the prospects.
Last year, India produced approximately 1.25 crore tonne of mangoes. The production across India will be up by approximately 15 lakh tonne this year.
Production in UP will be up by 25 percent to 30 percent from last year’s 28 lakh tonne, while production in both Maharashtra and Orissa will also be more compared to last year. Read more

Agriculture Sector To Record Higher Growth-Chidambaram

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said on Friday that ensuring high farm sector growth on sustained basis was the government’s topmost priority.
“The first charge on our resources is for agriculture, so that it grows at 4 percent or more for the next 10-20 years,” Chindambaram said at a National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) here. Read more
