RBI raises Cash Reserve Ratio, But Home Loan Rates Stay

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has hiked the cash reserve ratio (CRR)- the portion of deposits banks have to keep with the RBI-to squeeze money supply and arrest inflation, which has touched 7.33 percent.

The Reserve Bank of India Governor Y.V. Reddy, in the credit policy announced on Tuesday, raised the cash reserve ratio by 0.25 percent to 8.25 percent, the second hike in 12 days. Read more

Education System To Undergo Massive Change

The central government has finalized a bill that proposes to fix the minimum age for admission to pre-school at 3 years and 10 months.

The draft right to education bill, which will be put up for cabinet consideration in May, would also protect parents and children from screening by schools and prescribes huge fines in case of violation.

Prepared by the Human Resource Development Ministry, the bill says the admission age for Class I should be 5 years and 10 months before beginning of the academic year. This means, the admission age for two years of pre-schools would be 3 years and 10 months. Read more

Film and Television Institute of India

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, is a premiere institution for imparting training in the art and craft of film making and television production. It conducts three-year post-graduate diploma courses in film and television and one year certificate course in television.

Now, it has also started a one-year certificate course in feature film screenplay writing and two –year diploma course in Acting. From the academic year 2005-06, the Institute has launched a two year post-graduate diploma course in art direction and 1 and half certificate course in animation and computer graphics. Read more

Indian Institute of Mass Communication

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) which was set up in response to a need felt to evolve a methodology and effective use of communication resources as a part of the country’s overall development strategy, made a small beginning on 17 August 1965, as a department of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

Later it was registered as an autonomous organization under the societies registration act (XXI) of 1860 on 22 January 1966. The institute which receives funds for its recurring and non-recurring expenditure as grant-in-aid from the government of India through the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is today recognized as a “Centre of Excellence” in the field of communication teaching, training and research. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inducted seven first-timers in junior slots in his council of ministers on Sunday. The changes were necessitated by need to induct fresh blood, fill up ministerial slots vacated by two outgoing Rajya Sabha members and rid certain departments of problems caused by personality clashes.

The reshuffle-cum-expansion of once saws the exist of six ministers of state while bringing on board RS member and former CEC Manohar Singh Gill, Guna MP Juotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia and Jitin Prasada, who represents UP’s Shahjahanpur in the lower House. Read more

DoT To Act Tough On Rollout For 3G Services

The Government has proposed stiff network roll-out obligations for third-generation (3G) mobile service providers, failing which they will have to pay a hefty penalty for hoarding spectrum or the radio frequency.

If operators do not achieve their rollout obligations, they would be given one year to fulfill their rollout obligations. Within this timeframe, the operators would be find a spectrum cess of 2.5 percent of their winning auction per quarter, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said in its proposed guidelines for auction and allotment of spectrum for 3G service. It started originally as Imperial Secretariat Library in Kolkata 1891. Since 1969 the Library has been housed at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi.

It has a collection of over seven lakh documents mainly on Social Sciences and Humanities. It is a depository of Indian Official Documents, Central Government and has a strong collection of State Government documents also. Read more
