No Parking Facility in Community Centers

A Community centre is meant to provide better facility and more space for family functions and peaceful gathering but the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) community hall across Delhi has become a problem for the nearby residents.
Most of the community halls do not have parking space and the visitors and organisers have to park their vehicles on colony roads which lead to long traffic jams in the area, especially during the marriage season.
Besides, during the function tent owners place generators on the roads which create noise and air pollution in and around the area causing inconvenience to the residents as well as passersby. Read more

MCD Bans Sale of Cut Fruit, Sugarcane Juice and Water To Protect People From Water-Borne Diseases
Health department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has banned the sale of cut fruit, sugarcane juice and water by unlicensed people.
Every year, the health department bans crushers from April 15 to September 15 to protect people from water-borne diseases like dysentery, diarrhea, cholera, typhoid and jaundice.
Anyone seen selling these items will be penalized under the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act and their trollies will also be seized. Read more

Taxis and Autos to Ply Across NCR

Easing the woes of thousands of people commuting between Delhi and NCR regions like Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurgaon, the capital and its neighbouring states are set to sign an agreement allowing free flow of taxis, autos and buses across the region.
The agreement is expected to be inked within a week.The pact involving Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and UP will settle the longstanding travails of interstate commuters as cabs and autos are either barred from crossing certain state boundaries or have to pay hefty toll. Limited bus transport across borders has worsened the situation, with interstate disputes disrupting services as has been the case with UP and Delhi. Read more

Free Education At MCD Schools

Students studying in MCD schools will not have to spend a single penny on their education. Mayor Arti Mehra announced this on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Day of the MCD.
Primary education will be provided free of cost to every student studying in MCD schools.
Not only this, to encourage more girl students to study, the civic body has also given Rs. 200 to more than 4.5 lakh girl students in MCD schools. Read more

A Smoke Free Delhi By 2009

Aiming at a smoke-free Delhi by 2009, Delhi Government has finally decided to put its act together. It has entered into collaboration with Johns Hopkins University to check nicotine levels in the air and has tied up with Bloomberg Initiative, which is a fund created by various NGOs to enable countries curb tobacco use.
The Johns Hopkins University has promised 160 nicotine-monitoring devices 160 nicotine-monitoring devices free of cost, which will be positioned in strategic locations in the Capital. Read more

Buses To Ply Between UP and Delhi-15 Years Old Dispute Settled

There is good news for those who travel by bus between Noida and Delhi. The UP States Road transport corporation will soon start buses from Noida to major points in Delhi. The decision was taken at a top level meet of the officials of the two states, UP and Delhi, last week. This also brings to an end the 15 year long dispute between UP and Delhi on plying buses into each other’s territory. Read more

MCD To Launch Demolition Drive On Encroachments In Delhi

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is going to launch a massive drive in city against encroachments in both residential and commercial areas. The action plan for the entire Delhi will be carried out soon. MCD has demolished numerous illegally extended courtyards and boundary walls in GTB Enclave, Pocket E. Defacing The Walls Could Lead You In Jail

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Extending Lines Into TransYamuna Area

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is extending the metro line to reach areas in the trans-Yamuna region
The work of the Delhi Metro is in full swing and it aims to cover the entire city by the end of 2012. In addition to the three existing metro lines (red, yellow and blue lines), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is extending the blue line to connect places in the trans-Yamuna area.
After crossing the river, the line will divide into two. One branch will go straight towards Preet Vihar and the other will turn towards Mayur Vihar. Read more

Flyovers cannot Help Delhi Traffic Chaos

The construction of flyovers and removal of traffic signals has failed to do away with the traffic mayhem on the Ring Road. Vehicles moving at a snail’s pace have become a common sight during peak hours. An exponential growth in vehicular population may be a reason for the chaos, but commuters attribute it more to the prolonged road widening work and lack of foresight by the town planner. Read more
